First Sauce Review

So, to kick things off, we have a comparison of barbecue sauces. These sauces mostly came from Central Market, though you can likely finds the Stubbs and Sweet Baby Rays at most regular grocery stores. The Brothers Gold sauces recently won a BBQ contest and we actually got to meet the owner while he was demoing his product. Rating scale ranges from 0-5 with 5 being the best sauce you've ever tasted in your life. Without further ado, here is the review!

Stubb's Original--Consistency was thin and drippy. Not a good dipping sauce, would be better suited for brush-on/marinade as it had a good smoky flavor. Spicy, vinegary kick on the finish (in my opinion, this is good). Acidity can give one wicked heartburn.  Overall Rating- 2

Brother's Gold Chipotle--This sauce had a nice heat that stuck with me for quite awhile. Much more bite than actual BBQ flavor. Finish was almost sour which somewhat ruined the initial enjoyment of the flavor. Sauce was very thin and would work best as a brush-on/marinade. Overall Rating- 1.5

Sweet Baby Ray's Hickory and Brown Sugar-- Very thick sauce, even beyond the consistency of ketchup. Makes it great as a dip. No heat, which makes it kid-friendly if you're looking for a crowd pleaser. Had a mild, sweet flavor (not shocking given the hickory and brown sugar title) but lacked a true BBQ taste. Really serves as a kicked-up ketchup. Overall Rating- 2

Brother's Gold Mesquite-- Great consistency. Not too thick, but not runny. Well-balanced sweetness and smokiness. Great for dipping or as a pour-on for burgers. Mild spice that dissipated quickly and enhanced the enjoyment. Perfect choice for something beyond a standard KC Masterpiece. Best one of the group and will be a repeat sauce in this household. Overall Rating- 4

If you've tried any of these and want to comment, please do! If you have questions or have a specific sauce you'd like me to review, let me know. Check back soon for notes on my favorite salsas. It's something of an obsession with me. Enjoy!
